For our daily raft trips in West Glacier, Montana, you will want to wear shorts and a T-shirt, along with shoes that can get wet and will stay on your feet. Crocs and flip flops are not appropriate footwear and cannot be worn. For colder days, you will want to bring along a fleece sweater, wind pants and a hat or beanie.
We have splash tops available upon request. We also have wetsuits and neoprene booties available to rent for $17 at check in. If the weather requires wetsuits, we will supply them for no additional charge.
Glacier Raft Company provides U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets for all guided trips.
Generally, don’t bring anything with you that can’t get wet. If you wear eyeglasses or sunglasses, be sure to bring along a retainer to hold them on (available for purchase in our store).
Bottled water is recommended on hot days.
Bring along a towel and dry clothing to change into after the trip. We recommend locking both in your vehicle and leaving car keys in our office for safekeeping.
It is important to remember that Montana weather can be unpredictable. When you pack, know that the air temperature can vary from 30 to 90° Fahrenheit (-1 to 32° Celsius). The best way to be prepared for these extremes is to dress in layers. As a minimum, you should invest in a good set of rain gear, including both jacket and pants.
Midweight long underwear, top and bottom, are also required. Avoid cotton — opt for a synthetic material like polypropylene (polypro), Capilene, polar fleece or pile. These materials are designed to keep you warm even when wet. Cotton will leave you shivering if you get splashed, even on a warm day.
